I started my paper log book, can I still use a digital log book app?
Yes, but you will have to individually enter your paper log book entries, including the date, time and other details, into the app. Your supervising driver will also need to verify each entry.
How soon can I book my driving test?
You can take the driving test if you are at least 17 years old AND you passed the Hazard Perception Test AND you have held your learner licence for at least 12 months AND you have completed 120 hours in your learner driver log book. If I the L2P app, do I still need to fill out the paper log book?
You can choose to use either an app, or the paper log book, but not both. When making your decision you may want to consider the availability of phone reception in your area - if you have problems with reception you might want to stick with the paper log book.
Can I use any log book?
No however the L2P app is ACCEPTED and Roads and Maritime Services, and Service NSW The L2P app connects directly to the driver licensing system, and allow you to submit your hours electronically. They've also been checked to ensure they meet government policy and guidelines, to protect your personal details and privacy.
Can I use the digital log book while I'm driving?
Absolutely not. It is illegal for a learner to use any function of a mobile phone while driving. This includes when waiting at traffic lights or while in traffic. You must be safely parked out of the line of traffic to use your phone in any way. The digital log book apps are designed so that you enter all the required details before you start your practice drive. You can then put the phone away, and the app will record your drive in the background.
Can my supervising driver or passenger use a mobile phone while I'm driving?
Yes, as long as it doesn't distract you while you're driving, or them from providing you with the assistance and guidance you need while you're building your skills and confidence. It's important that supervisors and passengers understand the danger of distraction, and don't distract you while you're practicing driving by using their phones. We recommend that supervisors and passengers keep the phone use to a minimum while they're in the car with you
Can I switch from one app to another?
You can, but you won't be able to transfer your driving hours from one app to another. If you want to change apps, you'll need to manually enter your hours into the new app.
